The Lodge

The Lodge

The Lodge, which was built by Lady Meux in 1889 and adjoined Temple Bar at Theobalds Park, was sold at auction for £26,000. The vendor, furniture restorer and salvage dealer Dennis Buggins, 48, held the auction at his home of 20 years - Hurst Farm, near Chilham, Kent, on 27 and 28 September. Lot number 1179 was estimated by Humberts Auctioneers at £25,000 - £35,000.

The Lodge, which was built of Portland Stone, was not part of the original Sir Christopher Wren structure, but built by Lady Meux as a Gatekeepers house in 1889.

The Lodge was dismantled at Theobalds Park in 2003 by Architectural Reclaim (formerly based in Enfield).

Harris Digital Productions filmed and photographed the dismantling of the Lodge, which will feature in our forthcoming production about the return of Temple Bar to the City of London.

CWO build a commemorative plaque marking the former site of Temple Bar at Theobalds Park, Cheshunt. Stones from the former lodge have been used to build the base, which is sitting on a 1.5m (depth) concrete sub-base and stone mouldings from the flank wall have been re-used as corbels to support the plaque.
