The rest of the fence and its posts are taken down and replaced with a new security fence which surrounds the Bar. Another portable cabin arrives in the afternoon and is carefully placed in between the other two smaller cabins. The three large tank traps that you see in front of Temple Bar were erected during the last century to stop tanks from entering the estate through the gateway.
Tony Davies and Robin Ault from Downloads Partnership Limited were on site all day to perform heritage recording on Temple Bar, which they have also carried out on other ancient sites, such as Christopher Wren’s St Paul’s Cathedral, and Stonehenge. Through a process known as photogrammetric production a scaled line drawing or 3D view of Temple Bar can be achieved. It’s a fascinating method which involves gluing hundreds of numbered tabs to the monument, the co ordinates of these points are then electronically plotted to create an exact layout of Temple Bar to scale.
