The Lodge, which was built by Lady Meux in 1889 and adjoined Temple Bar at Theobalds Park, was sold at auction for £26,000. The vendor, furniture restorer and salvage dealer Dennis Buggins, 48, held the auction at his home of 20 years – Hurst Farm, near Chilham, Kent, on 27 and 28 September. Lot number 1179 was estimated by Humberts Auctioneers at £25,000 – £35,000.
The Lodge, which was built of Portland Stone, was not part of the original Sir Christopher Wren structure, but built by Lady Meux as a Gatekeepers house in 1889.
The Lodge was dismantled at Theobalds Park in 2003 by Architectural Reclaim (formerly based in Enfield).
